The Akari Rice Paper Floor Lamp carries on the legacy of one of the most beloved lamp designs of the 20th century. Made from mulberry paper stretched over a metal frame, it casts a warm, soft light that transforms any room into a space of quiet calm.
"The inspiration stems from a visit to the Japanese fishing village of Gifu, where Noguchi watched fishermen at work — using trained cormorants for the hunt, and lanterns to attract fish. These lanterns had ribs made of bamboo, covered with fine paper. He took this design to create light sculptures of his own, using paper from the mulberry tree — because it softens the light, making it gentle and spreading it evenly."

Is this an official Noguchi Akari lamp?
No. This is a design-inspired lamp sold by Haviera. It uses the same mulberry paper construction and bamboo-rib structure as Noguchi's original Akari designs, but it is not an official Noguchi Museum or Ozeki & Co. product.
Does it require hardwiring or an electrician?
No. This is a plug-in floor lamp with a 59.1" cord and a standard US wall plug. Just plug it in and control it with the inline push-button switch. No electrician required.
What sizes are available?
Four size options: Akari 10A (∅19.7" × H47.2"), Akari 14A slim (∅13" × H63.7"), Akari 14A wide (∅18.5" × H74.8"), and a Large version (∅20.4" × H74").
What bulb does it use?
Standard E26 (or E27) base. LED or Edison-style bulbs both work. A warm white bulb (2200–2700K) is recommended to achieve the warm, diffused paper-lamp glow. Bulb not included.
Are there special wiring instructions during assembly?
Yes. During assembly, connect the black wire to hole number 2 and the white wire to hole number 3. Follow the wiring diagram included in the box and the assembly guide above.
Can the paper shade get wet?
No. The mulberry paper shade is not water-resistant. Keep it away from moisture, humidity, and damp environments. For indoor use only (IP20 rated).

Changed your mind? Unused and uninstalled items can be returned within 60 days of delivery, in their original packaging and with all parts included. Return shipping is arranged and paid by you. For lighting shipped internationally this is typically $80 to $200. If you're unsure about size or finish, email us before you order and we'll help.
If your item arrives damaged in transit, is incorrect, or has a confirmed quality issue, we cover everything and arrange a replacement, replacement parts or a refund.

A lamp spends most of its life switched off, so we choose pieces for their shape as much as for their light. Solid materials, honest finishes, and proportions that work in a real room rather than a showroom.

Are bulbs included?
No. Bulbs are not included, so you can choose the brightness and colour temperature that suit your room. Each product page lists the fitting and the maximum wattage under Details.
For a warm, lived-in light we'd suggest 2700K. For kitchens and workspaces, 3000K to 3500K.
Do I need an electrician?
Plug-in lamps and portable pieces work straight out of the box.
Hardwired fixtures such as chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and flush mounts connect to your mains supply. Unless you are confident and permitted to do this work yourself, we recommend a qualified electrician. It is usually a short job, and it keeps your warranty and your home insurance intact.
How do I know it will fit?
Every product page lists the full dimensions and the adjustable drop under Details. Measure the height of your ceiling and the width of the surface below before ordering.
As a rule of thumb: over a dining table, hang the bottom of the fixture 75 to 90 cm above the tabletop, and choose a width of roughly half to two thirds of the table width. Still unsure? Send us your measurements and a photo of the room and we'll tell you what works.
Can I use a dimmer?
Most of our fixtures are dimmable when paired with a compatible dimmer and dimmable bulbs. Where a piece has integrated LEDs, the product page states whether it can be dimmed.
If dimming matters to you and the page doesn't answer it, ask us before you order and we'll check the specification for that exact model.
How long will delivery take?
Your order is checked and packed within 3 to 10 business days. Standard delivery then takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks. Expedited delivery takes approximately 1 to 3 weeks and is calculated at checkout.
On standard delivery to the United States we pay any customs duties and import taxes ourselves, so the amount you see at checkout is the amount you pay. You'll receive tracking as soon as your parcel enters the carrier network.

You have 60 days from delivery to return an unused, uninstalled item in its original packaging. For a change of mind you arrange and pay the return shipping.
